God completed the "Sonshine People" - Desert Triangle Team this past week with the arrival from States of team members A & S (African names to follow). Also arriving much anticipated shorts (since we have to wear shorts under our ponyas all the time I did not come with nearly enough). Thanks Mom and Cheryl, they fit great! As well as some cooking help - packets of taco, chili and spaghetti mixes.... food stuff, again the most treasured items for any worker overseas :)
Our team will be working with the 'Sonshine People' on the edge of the Sahara Desert. It is dry, dusty and very hot climate. They are an unreached people group of about 1 million throughout Senegal, Mali, Mauritana. There is not a written Word in their language, however, a NT book is being worked on. "North Star" is the city we will be working in.
My language lessons went well last week. (thanks to my friend Ralph for the voice recorder). I have successfully learned how to greet people in 3 languages now since arriving a month ago.. seems crazy! To get around here in town I actually can use a combination of French, Bambara and English all in once sentence and it usually works just fine.
The language has some Arabic sounds to it with xa (a guteral h). There is also the French rolled r and ha (not guteral). There are some words that are close or the same as Bambara that I've already learned so that is helpful.
